MUM graduate Yodit Denekew was recently crowned Miss Ethiopia at the 2017 Miss Ethiopia USA Pageant. The mission of Miss Ethiopia USA is to recognize women who are involved in promoting the Ethiopian culture and supporting humanitarian causes. Yodit was born and raised in rural Bahir Dar, Ethiopia, where she witnessed underprivileged women struggling to have access to education. Daniel Gorman is co-founder of Bubbling Brine Brothers, a sauerkraut business he started while a student at MUM. In fours years he went from cutting vegetables by hand in his basement to renting and renovating a commercial kitchen and selling his products to 12 grocery stores. A team of MBA accounting students recently finished in the 92nd percentile in an online integrated decision-making simulation that involved 1,125 master’s-degree-level teams worldwide. This team reflects the international character of MUM’s student population: John Ortaliza (Philippines), Rithy Um (Cambodia), and Elias Mengistu (Ethiopia). MUM graduate Terrell Smith started his MFA in painting program this fall at the University of Iowa with a full scholarship. He graduated in 2016 with a BFA degree from MUM and applied to six different graduate programs.
