Professor Andrew Bargerstock and PhD student Ye Shi won an award for writing the best article in the peer-reviewed journal Strategic Finance. They formally accepted the Lybrand Gold Medal Award at the annual conference of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) on June 20 in Denver, Colorado. Art faculty member Gyan Shrosbree is cementing her reputation as an artist with a half-dozen individual and group shows around the country. Her work is currently on display through June at the Yellow Door Gallery in Des Moines along with works by her father, Jim Shrosbree, who is also an MUM faculty member. Chas Zachar Heads to Hawaii with Teach For America

Chas Zachar, a native of Arizona, came to MUM because he became interested in learning the Transcendental Meditation®technique. As a former Waldorf school student, he was also interested in alternative education. On April 29, Maharishi Invincibility Institute in Johannesburg, South Africa, held graduation ceremonies for 58 students earning bachelor’s degrees in business from MUM, bringing the total number of MUM degrees awarded to MII students to 235. The Maharishi Invincibility Institute is a nonprofit organization established in 2007. It offers students access to 86 credits of coursework and a work-study program to help fund their tuition and gain practical skills. New Study Finds Reduced Stress and Trauma in Prisoners

(see full size image)   A new randomized controlled study by MUM researchers on 22 female prisoners, published in The Permanente Journal, found that those practicing the Transcendental Meditation® technique for four months had significant reductions in total trauma symptoms compared with a control group. This is the first stress study focused specifically on female prison inmates with high levels of trauma symptoms.
